Drago - Game engines

Drago can be interfaced with game engines using the GTP protocol. In practice, there can be some limitations. Here is the list of the engines which can be used without any problem.

GNU Go

GNU Go main page is here. The binaries can be downloaded:

  • here for the 3.6 release,
  • here for the 3.7.10 release.

The game engine is selected in the game engine tab of the option dialog. Just enter it in the Binary box:

After selecting the engine, just select the default parameters:

Go169

Go169 can be downloaded here.

Select it in the binary box as for GNU Go. As Go169 does not require command line parameters, just select custom parameters with an empty value:

MoGo

MoGo can be downloaded here.

Select it in the binary box as for GNU Go. MoGo requires some parameters described in its webpage. For instance, to play 9x9 games giving it 5 seconds per move, use the following parameters:

When starting a game, it is possible to select any other board size but it is advised to play with the size given as parameter.

Select also area counting (aka Chinese counting) in the scoring box as MoGo does not penalize for playing inside its own territory:

! Note that MoGo may use a lot of resources. This is especially true when using "--pondering 1" which enables MoGo to think during opponent time. In that case, some fine tuning of the engine using the --collectorLimitTreeSize option could be necessary.
